The day was August 28, 2012 which was my 22nd Birthday.  I was Student Teaching at W.B. Muncy Elementary and was also the C-Team Girls Basketball Coach there.  I had only been Student Teaching like a week or so at the time and had dressed to kill every day... except for that day.  It was my brithday, our 1st basketball game was that night against Stinnett and I was running late to beat it all.  I threw on a pair of khaki capris and my green W.B. Muncy "Ms. Lewis" t-shirt.  Little did I know, it was going to be more than just my birthday, it was going to be the most important day of my life (at that time).  The day started off like a normal day.  Several people in the school knew all about it but never gave any impression of anything unusal.  The morning started just like usual: saying the Pledge of Allegiance and students dividing into their morning Workshop groups.  Like I said, I had only been there a week or so at the time so I was still watching & learning as Mrs. Woods taught.  Workshop began like any other day at 8:05 A.M. with our approx. 8 students.  As Mrs. Woods was teaching there were 3 interruptions within a 20 minute span. After the 2nd or 3rd one, I stopped looking towards the doorway to see who it was and continued assiting students with their worksheet.  Only to my suprise, the 4th interruption that morning was B.J. When he walked in the doorway, I had my back turned towards him, the students were looking towards the doorway with a different look on their face.  They had no interest in the assistance I was giving them at that point.  I turned around to see who it was they were staring at.  There B.J. stood with a vase of flowers in his hand.  I was thinking "awww, this is sweet" but it never crossed my mind what was about to happen.  I thought he was surprising me with flowers for my birthday.  Even though Donna Melton, the Secretary at the school, my aunt Karen Wells, the Speech teacher at the school and Mrs. Woods all had their cameras and phones out recording and taking pictures, it never crossed my mind that I was about to get proposed to.  I wasn't even thinking about it for some reason.  I was in shock, confused and happy all at the same time.  I sat the flowers down on the students' table and turned back around to hug him and he was down on one knee.  My heart dropped.  I immediately put my hands over my mouth and started tearing up.  He grabbed my hand and popped the question, "Will You Marry Me?", I replied with a "Yes!!" and starting crying.  The funny thing is, my Aunt Karen cried way more than me or B.J. combined!! lol  I stood up to hug him afterwards and was just in shock.  One of the students shouted "Ms. Lewis did you marry him?!?" That was an ice breaker for all the crying, everyone started cracking up.  I walked outside in the hallway to share a few minutes with my fiance and we hugged, kissed, laughed, talked, etc.

As he walked me out of the school, my Supervisor from EKU pulled in.  I forgot all about her coming that day to pick up my paperwork and to meet Mrs. Woods.  I told her what had just happened and to overlook my watery eyes and blushed face for a few minutes.  Of course she asked to see my ring and her compliment was fabulous.  Students, teachers and other staff members at the school complimented my ring the entire day.  It was amazing!  That's something to this day I don't ever get tired of hearing and I don't think I ever will.  I remember one student compliment that I will never forget... As I was pointing to thier worksheet to help them with their math (addition problem), she said "Shew, I can't concentrate because of that shiny ring in my face!" I cracked up and moved my hand to the side.  It was hilarious and a wonderful compliment all in the same.

As the day continued, we celebrated my birthday and engagement at snack time with my 3rd grade class.  I had brought cupcakes for the students and Diane & Oscar sent a Subway tray of chocolate chip cookies.  I'm sure we sent students home hyper that day!

After school, I came up to the funeral home to visit B.J. and of course to show my ring off some more.  I recieved numerous compliments there, too.  After he got off work, we drove to Stinnett Elementary for my first game as a Head Coach.  I asked my girls to play thier best and to get a "W" for my birthday and engagement... and they did!  Might I add, it was my only win of the season as a Head Coach but I had a great group of hard working girls.  I was so proud of them that night.  They really and truly played hard every second for me and that meant everything.

After the game, we went to B.J.'s house to celebrate with his family for a little bit before coming to my house.  We took pictures with Wyatt, Charlie, Diane and Oscar to celebrate the occasion.  Wyatt was very impressed by my ring, too.  He said it was huge!  I even gave him a fist pound and he complained because it hurt his hand, lol.  When we got to my house, my mom had steaks, baked potatoes and all the fixings for my birthday dinner.  She also had my favorite cake, white cake with chocolate whipped icing.

I couldn't have asked for a better 22nd birthday... everything about the day was PERFECT!

The first day we ever spoke was on Friday, March 18, 2005 in the hallway of the Leslie County High School.  Some of my friends were trying to get me to talk to him earlier in the day.  I was too scared to even look his way!  Keep in mind, I was only a freshman and he was a junior.  I thought I didn't have a chance in the world with a junior football player who was very attractive, to say the least.  I told my friends there was absolutely no way I was going to speak to him.  Later on that day, here he comes down the hallway of what used to be the Social Studies wing of Leslie County High School.  I had my back turned towards him with my head stuck in the locker because I knew what was about to happen.  Since I wouldn't talk to him myself, my friends were going to do it for me.  They embarrassed me to death & arranged for our first date on that same night to meet at Fugate's to watch a movie.  I remember I was a total wreck the rest of the day at school, on my way home from school, getting ready for the movies and on the way to the movies.  Apparently, I had my mom a nervous wreck, too.  Of course back then I was only 14 years old so my mom had to drive me to my first date!  We pull in at the movies and discover that my mom forgot her purse at the house! I panicked... I could not look like a bum on my first date.  I at least had to have money to offer to pay for something.  I searched and searched in my purse and luckily found some money that would pay my way into the movie if B.J. wasn't a gentelman and didn't pay for it. (I got lucky, he was a gentleman)  About the time I found my money, B.J. pulled in.  My heart started racing 1,000 beats per second..again.   We went inside and watched The Ring Two.  I was scared to death from the movie, nervous as heck for my official 'first date' and asking myself 1,000 questions: "Is this real life?  Am I really on a date with a 18 year old football player?  Why is my mom approving of this?, etc." all in one.  After the movie, my mom was waiting outside on me.  We said our goodbyes and both went home.  I was waiting for the kiss.... but didn't get it!!  B.J. apparently don't kiss & tell on the 1st date.  After that, we talked for 2 weeks and then he asked me out on April 2, 2005.  When I say 'talked' I mean at school and on MSN Messenger.  (This was way before texting, Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, etc.)  I don't mean on the phone... I couldn't tell you how long it took for him to talk to me on the phone.  He wasn't a phone conversation person and still isn't to this day.   April 2, 2005 was our Anniversary together until he popped the question "Will You Marry Me?" :)
